"This kitchen was for a client's mother who had come to live with them. She wanted a room reminiscent of her childhood days. Using a beaded inset door and antiquing the cabinets gave them an Old World look. The corners of each door were sanded off for a rounded, worn effect, enhanced by little finger latches. Antiqued and distressed, the painted green cabinetry features cracking, pullout wicker baskets, dish and cup racks, valance legs, and flushed toes.
"The microwave was hidden behind a pocket door, while panels on the dishwasher and refrigerator kept them out of sight. We used hand-planed barn beams for the ceiling, and flooring that had knots in it like wide boards of years ago. A porcelain farm sink, butcher block tops, and a wrought-iron light provide finishing touches."
